Singapore fling
Back in mad Manila after a wonderful four days exploring Singapore and catching up with my nutty sister and the even nuttier Bridgit! After five months in Manila, the cleanliness and efficiency of Singapore was a bit of a shock to the system. I was amazed at the clean streets (with footpaths!), the speedy trains and the lack of traffic and pollution. Many of my friends had warned me that Singapore was on the bland side so I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity and energy of the island. Loved exploring little India and Arab Street and had a good giggle at the line dancers we spotted kicking up their heels.
The sis and I ticked off many of the "must see" tourists sights in Singapore; the merlion, the grand Raffles Hotel, little India, Chinatown, the Singapore Art Museum, the “durian” (thankfully not as smelly as the real fruit!) and the shops on Orchard Road. We also sampled many "must eat" Singaporean delicacies: we had satays washed down with Tiger beer, the national dish of Chicken rice, delicious dumplings, Ya kun Kaya toast and Indian curry along with some good coffees, cocktails and of course the requisite Singapore sling! Bridgit and her lovely new man, Alan were excellent hosts and very good tour guides- will definitely be back for another visit!
