Raising eyebrows

I am raising a lot of eyebrows here in Manila...let me explain. Here in the Philippines people raise their eyebrows to indicate a yes. So if you ask a question and the answer is affirmative the brows go up, usually twice. For someone used to head nodding it can be really confusing!

Then you have the added confusion of language. In Tagalog the word for yes is "oo-oo",which to my ear often sounds like "uh-oh" and leads me to think that the question I have asked is problematic.

So while I am scratching my head and looking perplexed, the person I have asked my question to is also confused - wondering why this crazy foreigner can't understand that the answer is YES.
