A tale of two New Years Eves

In 2006 I ushered in the New Year at a Sydney party drinking Moet. My celebration to herald in 2007 was VERY different: as 12 midnight struck I was dancing up a storm at a local disco held on the basketball court in Sabang, Palawan.

The DJ at the Sabang disco didn't have many CDs so he played 10 songs on high rotation including the very tragic "macarena". Once we taught the locals the steps he decided to play it even more often.....it sounds scary but we had sooooo much fun! The locals gave us a warm welcome making sure we all got on the dance floor for a boogey. "Bogs", the local hog also joined in the celebration- running amok amongst the crowd. And instead of champagne we sipped from our home-made mixer of local Filipino vodka (a bargain at just 20 pesos a bottle) and calamansi soda. A very funny and truly memorable start to 2007!
